More On Curious Gulag Goners
I once posted about use of the term “goners” to describe part of the Soviet gulag experience.
The other day I came across (via a WHEDONesque comment) another one, which I tracked down online.
Goners were extremely emaciated prisoners on the verge of death from starvation. Their presence constantly reminded prisoners of their potential fate if they failed to fulfill work quotas and thus were deprived of their full food rations.
Again, presumably irrelevant in terms of what Joss’ film will be about, but since I mentioned this once, I figured I’d toss out this other description of the term’s gulag use.
