MTV News Interview

MTV News gets a brief mention of Goners into their interview with Joss in the aftermath of the Wonder Woman announcement. That mention follows, and also has been added to Joss On Goners at the bottom of this site’s main page.

MTV: What can you say about “Goners,” another one of your upcoming directing efforts?

Whedon: You’re not going to understand where this is coming from, but there may be a young woman who gains some powers — not something I’ve written about before, but I’m excited to try some new territory. Got to stretch. It’s a horror fantasy. It’s a little darker than I’m used to. “Goners” is a very personal thing about human connection and questioning whether there is such a thing at all. It’s very dark emotionally as well as just creepy as I can make it, reclaiming some of that horror [from “Buffy”] without going into the torture-horror-porn fad that’s ruling nowadays.

‘The Movie That I Really Want To Make’

It’s probably safe to say that this CBR News item supports the idea that Goners has moved up a burner or two: “‘Goners’ is the movie that is more me than anything else and that’s the movie that I really want to make.”

Still Polishing?

With his announcement that he is off of Wonder Woman, Joss refers to “that ‘Goners’ movie I can finally finish polishing”. Last we heard, Goners would be ready for such a polish when he was finished writing Wonder Woman. I guess this qualifies as being finished.
